Traces

Magnification lenses encase photograms of hair specimens in portal shaped lightboxes. The camera-less process records hair placed on photo-sensitive paper and exposed to light in the darkroom. Rather than clarity, the images suggest an uncertain biology or a reference point beyond the specimen in question. The four images that make up the installation vary between macro and microscopic in appearance.

Hair is specific to an individual, carrying its DNA, and ubiquitous among mammals. I consider the ambiguous hair in Strands, Clippings and Clusters, to signal the complexity of identity and the enigmatic connections among living creatures.
